College Library Rules


  1. All members of the staff and students are members of the college library.

  2. All users must bring their College Identity card when they visit library.

  3. All users must read their identity card in the e-gate facility during their entry and exit to the library.

  4. The library will be open from 9.30 to 4.30 on all working days.

  5. One notebook/sheets of paper may be taken inside the library for note taking. No printed materials are allowed inside the library.

  6. Personal belongings may be kept in the property shelf kept outside the library.

  7. A silent/calm atmosphere should be maintained within the library and its premises.

  8. Our library is an open access library. Books in Lending Section can be borrowed by the user after circulation counter procedures.

  9. Library is providing OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility through which users can search their needed books by themselves.

  10. Reference books and periodicals cannot be borrowed .However, back volumes of magazines, journals or reference books (in special circumstances) may be granted for overnight issue. But the user should return it in the next working day morning itself. Failing this may cause cancellation of library membership.

  11. Users should maintain the library documents in good condition without scribbling, dampening etc.; failing which may cause replacement of the same book or fine payment as per government rules.

  12. A user have to examine the condition of the book thoroughly if there is any damage before borrowing the book from the library and notify the defect to the staff in the circulation counter. Otherwise user will be responsible for the damage of the book .

  13. Damaged books will not be issued.

  14. A UG student can borrow 3 books maximum at a time and a PG student can borrow 5 .Teachers can borrow 10 books at a time. Non teaching staff can also take 3 at a time.

  15. The period of loan is 14 days for students and 30 days for teachers. The date of return will be marked on the date label inside the book. A Failure to return on the recorded date will have to pay a fine of Rs.1 per day. However if there is any government orders to relax fine amount in the library for a particular period, it will be applicable in our library also.

  16. The fine accumulated will be collected when the time of issuing Transfer Certificate/Leaving Certificate/No Dues Certificate from the College.

  17. Though a library book is issued to any borrower category, College Librarian has the discretion to recall the book at any time. College Librarian can also cut down the loan period of a high demand book.

  18. If a book is lost or missing the user has to report it to the College Librarian immediately and the user has to replace the same book or pay the fine by a stipulated time decided by the Principal. If one volume/issue in a set of books/journals is lost by a user, he/she has to replace the whole set. If the user can replace the same copy of same edition, it will be accepted. As per the government rules the fine will be as follows:

Books published after 1980 = 3 times the cost of the book

Books published in between 1950 – 1980 = 6 times the cost of the book

Books published before 1950 = 10 times the cost of the book


Rare books = as decided by the Principal according to its relevance

  1. Queue system should be maintained in the Circulation Counter for issue and return of books.

  2. A library user (staff /Student) has to obtain a ‘No Dues certificate’ from the library or a sign from the College Librarian in the ‘No Dues form’ issued from the College Office at the time of leaving the institution.

  3. Users are requested to return all the books borrowed from the library before March 31 of every year. A notice and Library Defaulters list will be displayed in the library notice board to return the books by March 1st week.

  4. Students are expected to maintain discipline in the library and should give respect to the library staff.

  5. College Librarian has the right to suspend the use of library for a user in consultation with Principal for a particular time as a disciplinary action.

  6. The Library Committee has the right to amend or add Library Rules at any time of the academic year.
